1. Who we are
Gegenpresss ("we", "us", "our") operates the website at gegenpresss.com. This policy explains what data we collect when you visit the site, how we use it, and your rights under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
For privacy enquiries, contact us at: privacy@gegenpresss.com
2. What data we collect
We do not require you to create an account or submit any personal information to read content on Gegenpresss.
The following data may be collected automatically when you visit:
- Server logs— our hosting provider (Vercel Inc.) records standard web server logs including IP address, browser type, referring URL, and pages requested. These logs are retained for up to 30 days and used solely for security and performance monitoring. Vercel's privacy policy is available at vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.
- Cookies from third-party services — if you click an affiliate link to Amazon, Amazon may set cookies on your device in accordance with their own privacy policy. We do not control or have access to those cookies.
We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any other third-party tracking or advertising scripts. We do not place any first-party cookies on your device.
3. Affiliate links and third-party sites
Gegenpresss participates in the Amazon Associates programme. When you click an Amazon affiliate link, you are leaving our site and are subject to Amazon's privacy policy and cookie practices. We receive a commission on qualifying purchases but have no visibility into your personal data, browsing behaviour, or purchase history on Amazon's platform.
All affiliate links are disclosed in the article where they appear. Clicking them is entirely optional.
4. Embedded content and external links
Articles may contain links to external websites. Once you leave gegenpresss.com, this privacy policy no longer applies. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party sites. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of any site you visit.
We do not embed social media widgets, video players, or iframes that load third-party tracking scripts on this site.
5. How we use data
We process the limited data described above only for the following purposes:
- Delivering the website and its content to your browser
- Detecting and preventing abuse, spam, or security incidents
- Maintaining the performance and availability of the service
Our lawful basis for this processing is legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR) — specifically, the legitimate interest in operating a secure and functional website.
6. Data sharing and transfers
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. The only third party that receives data as part of normal site operation is our hosting provider, Vercel Inc., which is based in the United States. Vercel processes data under Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the UK ICO.
7. Data retention
Server log data held by Vercel is retained for up to 30 days. We do not store any other personal data. If you contact us by email, we retain that correspondence for as long as necessary to resolve your query and for up to 12 months thereafter.
8. Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of any personal data we hold about you
- Erasure — request deletion of your personal data
- Rectification — request correction of inaccurate data
- Restriction — request we limit how we use your data
- Object — object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Portability — receive your data in a portable format
Because we collect only minimal server log data (which typically cannot be linked back to an individual without significant effort), most of these rights will be difficult to exercise in practice. We will always respond to any request within 30 days and explain what we can and cannot do.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@gegenpresss.com.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
9. Children
This website is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal data to us, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when we do. Continued use of the site after any change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. Material changes will be noted here.
